Chinese herbs are categorized according to temperature, direction, flavor, and actions, helping acupuncturists/herbalists to determine which ones are best for each condition.
Dr. Chen's book, Chinese Medical Herbology & Pharmacology, is an invaluable resource for understanding biomedical pharmacological implications of herbs. Western herbs can compliment Chinese herbal formula blends. They are sometimes integrated into Chinese herbal formulas to accentuate treatment effects.
