Chinese Herbs on the Endangered Species (CITES) List

All information for this post comes from Peg Schafer’s book, The Chinese Medicinal Herb Farm. The information was current when her book was published in 2011.

CITES stands for Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora. There are three levels of classification: I) species that may go extinct; II) trade controlled for these species so they do not rise to the level of potential extinction - “to avoid utilization incompatible with their survival;” III) species “protected in at least one country that has asked other CITES member countries for assistance in controlling traffic.”
